I have always wanted to go to the Maldives and the idea of kitesurfing there has been implanted in my mind for quite some time. Having done a little bit of research, the general consensus seemed to be that it was a light to no wind destination, but the stats indicate that there are two wind seasons with the most wind around July/August and a lighter season in January/February. Since a new flight route from London has just started up and I had a load of airmiles I decided that it was time to check it out as the first leg of a round the world adventure.
I am currently teaching myself to foil and the dream was me hoping from one tiny island to the next cruising around perfect lagoons with bright coral reefs beneath me. I even bought a waterproof bag with the idea of going on day trips to my own private islands landing the kite and doing a bit of snorkelling before returning home. So did the Maldives live up to this?
