Cape Town should be on every kitesurfers bucket list. When the winter months set in and the daylight hours shorten in the Northern hemisphere, then this is the place to go for wind and some wind and vitamin D!
Getting around Cape Town is dead easy with cheap Uber taxi's running 24x7. Alternatively renting your own car is a good option. Rent a Cheapie does great deals especially on long term rentals (about 10 Euro's per day for a VW Chico Golf).
If you want to be in the thick of it, then Kite Beach near the roundabout in Bloubergstrand, but anywhere along that stretch of beach will be busy. Big Bay is a little bit quieter and gets more windsurfers. There are some large mansions down at Sunset Beach and the wind tends to pick up earlier at this end and get stronger throughout the day. If you have an extended stay then it is worth splitting your trip into two locations and heading up to the lagoon at Langebaan about an hour north of Cape Town, or at the very least heading up for a day trip.
About an hours drive north of Cape Town is a town called Langebaan which has two kite spots. Right at the front of the main town opposite Schaapen, the other being in the lagoon called Shark Bay. It is worth checking the tide times as there is not a lot of water at low tide, but catch it right and you will have buttery flat water!! Also be aware that the tide can move at several knots which does make a surprising difference depending on whether it is with or against the wind. With the wind, beginners could struggle to stay upwind. Against the wind, the water will be more choppy and feel stronger.
