So I have finally booked myself a flight to the maldives for Jan 3rd 2024. I know that it's not the windiest time of year, but my research so far suggests that there is some wind. I am taking a foil and will try to get a shortish mast before I go. As yet I have no idea which islands I will go to, but they will be of the less developed guest house variety instead of super expensive all inclusive resorts. Would love to hear off anyone who has any good suggestions or anyone else who is interested in coming on an expedition!

Quick update. The first couple of days were calm, followed by a few days of light wind. I was surprised to find that I was getting little pull from my new 13m Juice DLAB when I assumed that there was enough wind. I put this down to the strong current - something to be careful of on these small islands as there is not much of an escape plan without going to another island downwind and paying a heavy tax to get a boat back!!! I subsequently realised that I took the V splitter off to use on another kite, so that hopefully explains the poor performance of the DLAB otherwise I'm going to regret it (even if i did get it 2nd hand at half price).

Update 2: The wind has been 20-30 knts for 2 days with squalls passing through causing gusts of 40+ knts. Unexpectedly this has caused swells of 2-4m which I had not expected. Note local ferry's do not run when conditions are rough, so I had an unexpected speedboat transfer costing $75. Forecast looks perfect tomorrow for a morning session tomorrow so I'm off to do some island hopping 😀
